This “blue” Spruce is native to intermountain states of the west but is mainly planted as an ornamental landscape species. This is a broad dense pyramidal tree, with horizontal branches extending to the ground. Can grow as tall as 60 feet with a canopy spread up to 25 feet wide. Prefers full sun and does not tolerate shade or flooding, performs best on moist to well drained soils. Colorado blue spruce is a good conifer for wind breaks and for providing nesting sites for birds. Popular Christmas tree species.
