Join us for the 2024 City Nature Challenge: Palouse Region!
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort to document nature that will take place from April 26 – 29. What started as a friendly competition between two cities in 2016 has now grown to include over 500 cities across the globe!
You can take part in as little or as much as you want! All you need to do is find wild (not captive or cultivated) plants, animals, fungi, seaweed, bacteria, lichen, etc. anywhere in Whitman or Latah Counties. Then take a photo and upload the observation to the iNaturalist app, and you're done! Scientists both locally and across the world will use your observations in biodiversity data to increase our understanding of species patterns globally.
To participate, follow these steps: 1. Download the iNaturalist app to your phone or device and create an account 2. Find wildlife anywhere in Whitman or Latah Counties 3. Take a photo of WILD organisms (avoid taking photos of the 3 Ps: people, pets, and potted plants) 4. Share your observations on the iNaturalist app 5. Learn more about local species diversity as your observations get identified!
Any observations made in Whitman or Latah Counties from April 26 – 29 count toward the CNC: Palouse Region.
