Join us at Koppel Farm on Saturday, June 7th from 10 am - 12 pm for an exploration of the macroinvertebrates living in and around the South Fork of the Palouse River! We will meet at the Pullman Community Garden at 10 am. This is a family-friendly event and all ages are welcome to attend.
Please register to receive event updates as needed.
We'll kick it off with some discussion of local water quality and the pollutants that affect the health of the river habitat and the animals that live there. Then we'll talk about what aquatic macroinvertebrates are and why they're so important. Bring some lawn chairs or a picnic blanket and relax as you learn all about the critters we'll find in the water! Additional seating is also available at picnic tables at the gardens.
Before heading into the water, we'll give you a short tutorial on how to catch and handle aquatic macroinvertebrates. Nets and other identification tools will be provided and all skill levels are encouraged to join.
It is not required that participants enter the water. However, it's fun to do so! If you'd like to get in the water, we recommend you wear water shoes or waders. We will also have child and adult waders available for participants to borrow. Please note we cannot guarantee availability for all shoe sizes. Be sure to bring your own socks!
