Orca Recovery Day | 10.17.26
Join communities across Washington state as we collectively work to improve local water quality and riparian habitat in honor of Orca Recovery Day! For our Palouse-area event, we will plant native vegetation along a stream restoration site near Pullman on Saturday, October 17th from 10 am - 12 pm. This is a family-friendly event.
Orca Recovery Day is a Pacific Northwest-wide annual day of action to raise awareness about the importance of water quality and salmon habitat in preserving endangered west coast orca populations and their food source. While we are far from the ocean here in Pullman and won't be working directly on a salmon-bearing stream, all water quality upstream affects waters downstream of us. (And, despite the distance, here on the Palouse we are technically just two rivers away from the Pacific Ocean!)
Urban development, agricultural runoff, and soil erosion have degraded water conditions in our creeks. Restoration efforts, including planting native plants along streambanks, help to improve soil and water quality and create habitat for wildlife.
The event location will be provided to registered participants prior to the event. Tools and gloves will be provided.
Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants, dress for rain or shine, and bring some water!
This event may be canceled due to high water or weather. Participants will be contacted if cancellation occurs. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes.
